Dear members and friends of the SAS of Atlanta,
We the board hope you and your family had a good Holiday Season and a wonderful start into 2009.
Review of most recent events:
On November 11 several ladies met at BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in Lilburn to take the tour of this Hindu Temple with a “Ladies lunch” afterwards at the Indian restaurant Kohinoor.
December 6th:
Our Raclette booth at the International School of Atlanta was well visited. A big thanks goes out to our board members Markus, Toni and Rene as well as our volunteers Ed Mikulcik with son Michael and Dwight Akerman. All the help is very much appreciated.
2009: we might not join the event since they are talks about tripling the rental fee and that would be out of our range to attend this event, we will keep you updated
At Garden Hills Samichlaus met over 30 children and everybody enjoyed a bowl of barley soup afterwards. Thanks to Astrid, Anita, Sybille, Jean Pierre and all other “Elves” helping with this beautiful event.
Samichlaus will meet our children again early December 2009
On December 14th over 50 members and guests enjoyed a cozy evening at Laurel Springs Golf Club as our Christmas Dinner.
The board is interested in hearing any comments or suggestions about this event. Let us know, any feedback is very much appreciated.
On January 9th Good-Bye Ladies Luncheon: 11 ladies enjoyed a wonderful lunch at the home of Marie-Claire Hunn to say good-bye. We for sure will miss her and wish her all the best in India.
If you are interested to join the Ladies Luncheon group or have an idea for a next event please contact Sybille at 404 843 2942, cell 404 314-6262 or by e-mail at hoggi@mindspring.com.
Upcoming events
Swiss German Moms & Kids Meeting, Saturday January 24th 10am
A second meeting is planned since our first was successful. We plan a play morning for the children to promote the Swissgerman language and exchange experiences and tips between Moms. If you are interested in attending with your children, please contact Astrid Wilkens at 770 906 1346 or at astrid.wilkens@gmail.com for this meeting.
Fondue Party Saturday February 7th 6-10pm
Now ready for 2009 we are kicking it off with our Fondue event on Feb 7th (see enclosed invitation). Due to the limited seating situation at this location we encourage you to register on time (by Jan 31st). We also would like to ask for help from our members: We are in desperate need of a new location which can accommodate at least 150+ people for this event. The Fondue party is very popular and we do not like to have a limit on how many guests you could bring along. If you can think of a location please contact any of the board members and we can research the idea. Thanks already in advance!
General Assembly March 29th 9.30am
We will meet for a brunch again at the Marietta Conference Center (same location as for the 2008 meeting, official invitation will follow).
We like to let our members know that anyone interested to join the board is welcome to let us know so we can make sure they are being presented for election on our General Assembly. Of course the floor is also open to anyone wanting to be elected at the meeting itself, but we thought it might be nice for members not able to attend to know who is up for election and might use the proxy to cast their vote.
Resignations
After many years of service to the Swiss Club we sadly announce the resignations of Rene Welti and Beat Schindler. Both have served over 8 and 10 years respectively and due to their business schedules and work they have decided to leave the board. We want to express our thanks and gratitude for all their work and input and endless of hours to our club. They both will be missed and we look forward to see them still around at our events.
Baby News!
Our club has two more baby girls! Congratulations to all of them!
On November 12th Tanya and Alex Schulze welcomed their first daughter Hannah Emily to their family.
On December 4th Tanja and Luis Alemany welcomed their second daughter Alina Tanja.
Last but not least: A Donation for Samichlaus! Thanks very much!
Hermann Gammeter donated $100 towards the Samichlaus 2009 event. This generosity is very much appreciated by the club and of course the organizing “Elves”!
As always, on behalf of the board I like to thank everybody that volunteers their time to make these events a success…even if it is as little as suggesting a location to be possibly considered or putting a table into storage after an event is over… as well as all my board members for their work throughout the year.
