SAS Update May 2009

Atlanta, May 1st 2009

Dear members and friends of the SAS of Atlanta,

Spring has sprung and just a month ago 29 members sat together enjoying brunch at the Marietta Conference Center getting our General Assembly underway. Again the proxy vote was used to give members which could not attend a chance to vote. The past year was reviewed with input from several board members; the financials were presented as well the review of our books by the auditors Hans Broder Jr. and Toni Elmiger. The elections were held by Josef Broder and the following board members were re-elected or newly elected for 2009/2010:

Tanja Alemany         President
Sybille Hoegger-Rionda           Vice-President
Guido Walther          Treasurer
Anita Akerman          Secretary
Anton Buehlmann    Director
Jim Eppelin               Director
Max Hürlimann          Director
Astrid Wilkens           Director
Jean-Pierre Huber   Consular Liaison (appointed by Swiss Consulate)

Hans Broder Jr & Toni Elmiger            Auditors

Please join me in congratulating Jim and Guido as new members and Sybille for taking on the Vice-President position.

On behalf of all of our board members and auditors I would like to thank all our members for election and re-election. We look forward to work for your club and have successful events.

We also like to extend again our gratitude to our departing board members for all their work and time invested over the past years: Rene Welti, Beat Schindler and Markus Engel.

We also presented our program and have already set several event dates for this club year. Mark your calendar and look for the official invitation with more details for each event to follow:

  • June 6th 2009
    Spring gathering (invitation enclosed)
  • August 1st 2009
    1. August celebration at Bridge to Grace Church in Roswell
  • Fall
    fall event, in planning
  • December 6th 2009
Samichlaus Hoeck at Garden Hills (about 2 or 3pm starting again)
  • December 12th 2009
Christmas Dinner at Laurel Springs Golf Club in Suwanee
  • Ladies Luncheons – about quarterly gatherings
Swiss German Mom & Kids – about every 2 months

As always there will be short notice invitations from the consulate forwarded to you as we receive them.

We are also evaluating the responses we received from the questionnaire sent to you. We thank you for your input so far.

Membership 2009

Our membership is for the calendar year, so from Jan – Dec each year. The membership fee ($55 for families, $30 for individual) is due now. If you have not sent us the renewal for 2009, please do so as soon as possible (if you became a new member, “never been member before” after 10/01/2008 your fee is not due until January 2010). Keep in mind this fee keeps your club afloat and helps us with planning and keeping the individual event fees as low as possible and of course you benefit of the membership price on events you join.

Swiss German Mom & Kids

So far we had 4 successful meetings. We would like to extend our invitation to other members by asking the following:
Are you a grandmother/father or just a member that would like to join a meeting and tell us about your time as a child, teach us songs or read/tell us a story? Would you like to teach us a few words in French, Italian or even Romanisch for fun?
We are eager to get other club members involved and if you are interested please contact Astrid Wilkens or call her at 770 906-1346.

Website

We wanted to remind you our website is a great resource for you our members! We have a bulletin to inform other members to promote your yard sale, job offer, party gatherings or else. Contact your board if you would like something posted and of course keep checking the bulletin to see other members’ postings. Also, if you like to promote your business you can do so for being a member in good standing.
We wanted to say that Astrid is doing a great job on keeping the site updated and thank her for doing such a great job. If you have any suggestions do not hesitate to contact her or any board member with your input.

In closing this update I would like to express my gratitude again to all board members, many volunteers, and our vendors and sponsor to make our events a success.

I am looking forward to a great 2009/2010 and seeing you at a future event.

On behalf of the board

Tanja Alemañy
