National Day Celebration, August 5, 2007

Martha Hope Cabin, Gainesville

Gainesville, August 5, 2007

Swiss National Day celebration is an important way to keep in touch with Switzerland for the 650’000 Swiss abroad. This is no different for the SAS members of Atlanta. 66 members, 15 kids (<12 years old) and 26 guests gathered on Sunday, August 5th, 2007 at the Martha Hope Cabin in Gainesville. The cabin was the perfect spot for a celebration like this: a wooden cottage providing comfortable seating both indoors and outdoors, and surrounded by beautiful trees – it felt like being back home in Switzerland.

Volunteers and SAS board members met a few hours before the crowd arrived to decorate the cabin, to set up tables and chairs, and to prepare salads, desserts and drinks. Originally the seating was meant to be outdoors, but a freak thunderstorm forced us to move everything back inside the cabin. By the time members and guests arrived, the weather had cleared up and everyone could enjoy the 'Apero' (Swiss Cheese and wine) outside.

Gary & Jim, two 'Alphorn' musicians, were entertaining the crowd, while Toni, our 'Grill Chef', and his helpers grilled more than 100 'Cervelats' and 'Bratwursts'. It looked like everyone had fun and enjoyed the National Day celebration very much.

A special Thanks goes to:

Luis Alemany is 'the man' – for picking up the grill, brining the salad and all the other little things which Tanja told him to do so.

Tony Buehlman gets the "sweated the most" recognition as everyone one had enough to eat and enjoyed perfectly grilled Bratwurst and Cervelat. Also someone might wish to send Encrico a nice e-mail for all his expert input to Chef Tony. Here's Enrico's new website; www.wienerz.com.

Daniel Gruennenfelder gets "the humorous" award for a colorful and lively Swiss Consulat Generale Office remarks.

Special "at-a-girls and at-a-boys" go to Sybille, Astrid, Adriana, Berti, Fredi, Markus and Tony for setting everything up and then having to put everything back inside.

Also Genaro's ipod technology and skills broadcasted music and National Message very clearly.

Sybille got the cabin caretaker to sign-off so we know we left the place in a proper condition (which is, of course, to be expected from Swiss people :-)
